North Carolina's temperatures are mild most of the year, with an average wintertime temperature of about 42°F and a summer average of 79°F. North Carolina experiences relatively few severe storms, with 40-50 thunderstorms per year in any given locality and only two-three tornadoes per year across the state. Hurricanes influence North Carolina weather only about twice a year, making a serious impact on the state only about once a decade.
The state also enjoys sunshine about 210 days a year.
