Current Film Incentives (expire 12/31/10)
25% film incentive (will be replaced by enhanced incentive package on 01/01/11).
On August 27, 2009 Gov. Bev Perdue signed into law legislation to expand North Carolina's film tax credit. Effective January 1, 2010 qualifying productions spending over $250,000 in NC will receive a 25% tax credit on in-state purchases for good and services and not to exceed a per project credit of $7.5M (approximately $30M in-state spend.)
Procedure for claiming the incentive remains the same:
- Complete the Intent to Film form and submit it to the North Carolina Film Office.
- Complete your production in North Carolina.
- Once the production has wrapped in North Carolina, submit the one-page form NC-415 to the Department of Revenue to trigger the auditing process by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
- Receive your refundable tax credit after filing corporate income tax return.

On August 8, 2006, Gov. Mike Easley signed into law legislation that provides for a 15% tax credit on productions over $250,000 and not exceeding a credit per project over $7.5M (on an approximately $50M in-state spend.)
Simple steps towards claiming your 15% tax credit:
- Complete the Intent to Film form and submit it to the North Carolina Film Office.
- Complete your production in North Carolina.
- Once the production has wrapped in North Carolina, submit the one-page form NC-415 to the Department of Revenue to trigger the auditing process by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
- Receive your refundable tax credit upon completion of audit.
