The Triad could be playing host to the next blockbuster hits.
HIGH POINT, N.C.--The Triad could be playing host to the next blockbuster hits.
Two movies, "Elephant Sighs" and "Stalemate" are being filmed in the Triad.
Rebecca Clark with the Triad Film Commission said, "We are definitely competitive and in the game once again."Those films are attracting big names, like Ed Asner of "Up" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show."
"It's been great being here. I spent too little time in North Carolina," said Asner. "I look forward to the next one."
Asner is the star of "Elephant Sighs" directed by High Point University professor Ed Simpson.
Since 1993, 51 films have been made in the Triad including "Cabin Fever", "Leatherheads", "Goodbye Solo", and "Two Soldiers".
Filmmaking is a $20 million a year business for the Triad, growing now that North Carolina offers movie makers a 25 percent rebate when they spend at least $250,000.
Clark said, "I get inquiries every single week, at least three a week from major studios."
Clark also said training programs at the UNC School of The Arts and UNC Greensboro are big draws, because the studios have immediate access to set designers, decorators, managers, and more.
Simpson said he "Elephant Sighs" is just the beginning.
"We hope to be the first of a number of projects we'll be doing."
